Wedding Cake Trends: Miniature Wedding Cakes

Are you looking for a unique way to give your "big" day a personal touch? Then you may want to consider "going small" on your cake.

One of the latest trends in wedding cake design are "minis." These individual serving size cakes are an elegant alternative to the slice of cake traditionally served at wedding receptions. They usually consist of two or three small tiers -- a perfect substitute for the dessert course. Mini wedding cakes can be incorporated into the reception décor in a variety of ways: They can be displayed on a stand on a separate table, or they can double-up as seat markers by attaching a name tag to the cakes and placing them in front of each guest's seat.

Another type of "mini" wedding cake is the centerpiece cake. These cakes act as the centerpiece for each guest table and usually serve the number of guests seated at the table. They can create the same stunning effect as individual serving size cakes but on a smaller budget. Since the cake is the centerpiece, it will reduce the need for additional table decorations. Again, the possibilities are endless when it comes to the design of centerpiece cakes: it can be a vase beautifully decorated with sugar art flowers designed to match the bridal bouquet, it can incorporate the pattern of the china used at the reception, or it can even be a replica of an architectural feature in the reception room… Whatever the design inspiration, centerpiece cakes make quite an impact.

Whichever type of "mini" you choose, having their "own" cake will make your guests feel more special and the event more memorable.
